The Model Sunday Roast - The Swan Inn Southrop

A fifteen minute drive out of Witney, passed Burford, on the Lechlade road, set in the middle of the exquisite Cotswold village of Southrop, is the Swan Inn. The setting equally appealing on a warm summers day like today, or as an escape from the a Cotswold winters day. Either way a very warm welcome will await you.

Kate Moss has been a regular visitor to the pub in recent years. She is pictured here just a couple of days before her wedding to Jamie Hince, in the village. She shared a rather large house with Jamie in the village, but now tends to be seen at the neighbouring Five Alls.

The menu for a Sunday lunch is varied, and not just a choice of which roast. The roast sirloin of beef for me has to be a good choice. Priced well at £16 the roast sirloin has to be my favourite roast of any in the area. It has been for some time now. Others come close but this is superb. Served with roasted seasonal veg. For the rest of the menu, the choice of starter was tricky. We decided on Beauvale Blue cheese with garden beetroot, pangritata and pine nuts. A creamy blue cheese with a sensation of tastes and textures. Alongside that,  Evesham Vale asparagus & watercress risotto.
Both of these dishes were sensational, nice to see that the risotto was on offer as a main, or starter. The depth of colour was stunning. So for those of you who note I only choose meat dishes, well I might be tempted with this one, but hang on a minute.... the roast sirloin is the best for miles !!

Two thick slices of sirloin that melts in the mouth, together with such seasonal veg as roasted beetroot and beetroot leave. Well worth a trip out to The Swan to sample this, The Model Sunday Roast.
